The Living Archive brings into focus seventy years of displaying, collecting and debating contemporary art. The result is an extraordinary collection, a number of acclaimed exhibitions, and an archive that provides a meaningful context to this rich history. An archive that contains the ‘past of the future‘ and which is vitally important for the museum’s identity. ( Folder )
For Meanwhile… behind the scenes an object, letter, photograph or other small memento was chosen from every year of the museum’s existence. Each archive item – seen as a ‘keywork‘ for that particular year – is presented within the broader context of developments in the history of art and events in the world. The 70 objects thus illustrate the historical development of this celebrating museum and the contemporary art it has shown and collected from 1936 to 2006.
